Other services

Besides our garden visits and guest accommodation we have built up a vast array of experience from our being involved in building an environmentally friendly house and the restoration and planting of gardens that have fallen into disrepair. We are happy to help and advise anyone with a project where our experience may be beneficial.

Garden consultacy and restoration

Jo the gardener

In view of the fact that we have now restored a number of gardens that had fallen into disrepair (some quite large), we are able to build on our experience and advise potential clients on garden design and planting schemes.

We do not provide hard landscaping labour or supply but we can carry out the soil preparation, planting and subsequent plant maintenance if required.

Environmentally friendly approach

The new house and outbuildings at Blackmore Gardens have been built to the highest standards in order to minimise energy needs. Under-floor heating is used and all walls, floors and ceilings are thickly insulated. All lighting is low energy. We recycle all our waste.

We store over 6,000 gallons of our storm water and in addition have the lakes and a well to supply our water needs for the gardens. The house uses mains water. We used to generate electricity with a 6kW wind turbine but it proved not to be effective in our location and has now been dismantled. Solar panels provide all our hot water on sunny days. Overall our aim was to be self sufficient. We are happy to discuss our experiences with anyone contemplating using renewable energy and give advice if required.

Plant sales

Selection of plants

We raise many plants during the course of the year.

One source of such plants is Joanna's father who is 91 years' old and an expert at growing seeds. He produces amazing numbers.

We sell plants at farmers markets and to our guests. We also provide a substantial number of plants for sale at local charity events.

Please note that the property is neither open to the general public nor to ad hoc visitors.
