Garden visits

You can visit Blackmore Gardens. Groups of 10 or more people are welcome. The organiser of the group will need to make the booking in advance. Garden visits are on a first come first served basis and are limited in number each year. Please note that the property is neither open to the general public nor to ad hoc visitors.

The Blackmore Estate dates back to at least the reign of King Henry VIII, and the area occupied by Blackmore Gardens represents the area of the estate that produced the flowers and vegetables for the estate and a large proportion of the fruit.

The estate was broken up in 1919 and Blackmore Gardens was sold in 1925 when the area around the Mansion was sold. Until the 1980’s it retained its horticultural roots as a market garden. After that attempts were made to change it to an agricultural small holding and horse racing stable.

When we bought the property in August 2000 virtually the only thing growing was grass with nearly all the trees destroyed. We have embarked on a long term restoration and enhancement project to recreate the horticultural base of the property, which is mentioned in several documents as part of one of the historic parks and gardens of Worcestershire.

The entrance fee includes refreshments and goes to a local charity. In the first year the local primary school was the recipient and since then it has been the Air Ambulance. The visits include conducted tours. Plants are always available to purchase.

Plant sales

Selection of plants

We raise many plants during the course of the year.

One source of such plants is Joanna’s father who is 91 years’ old and an expert at growing seeds. He produces amazing numbers.

We sell plants at farmers markets and to our guests. We also provide a substantial number of plants for sale at local charity events.
