The Courtyard Garden used to be the area containing fruit stores, rhubarb forcing sheds, greenhouses and the under-gardeners accommodation/bothy. During the brief period as a horse racing stable it was the stable yard.
Since this area is built on the side of a hill we have had to manage the change in levels down to the new house. This has been done using Azobe hard wood sleepers both as a retaining wall and to create beds and borders.
There is a central shrub bed, herb beds, a camellia bed and areas of ornamental hard landscaping using different coloured stone. Another feature, commented on by many, is the area devoted to frost damaged pots which have been retained with ornamental planting along with other pots appropriately planted. The last feature to be completed was an ornamental pond with waterfalls which is now being planted.
This area is also the access to the house and guest accommodation and is accessible by wheelchair via the ramps.
