ArboretumAccording to the 1880 ordnance survey map over 50% of the property was covered in mixed woodland. We are attempting to restore this by the creation of an arboretum around the whole perimeter of the property and with additional copses.
Over 2,000 trees were planted in March 2001, a further 500 were planted up to and including 2007 and a further 500 have been planted since, in 2008 and 2009. This completes our intended planting. Rest shelters and seats are planned in appropriate.
The main arboretum has 60% of its content as Oak, Ash, Birch, Scots Pine and Larch. The remaining 40% contains examples of virtually all other trees able to grow in our soil and conditions. The full arboretum walk approaches 1 km and has different interesting features in each of the seasons. Attempts have also been made in its design to retain the views to the Malvern Hills and over the rest of our land and its features. |
